WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the recuperative power of your body, without the use of drugs and surgery. It insures that your body' nervous system works at it's best. The nervous system; consisting of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and special sensory organs; controls and co-ordinates all of your body's organs and structures. The practice of Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structures to removes any interference to the nervous system allowing your body to heal itself, giving the best possible conditions for life and health.
HOW DOES CHIROPRACTIC WORK?
Chiropractors work with the spine and the nervous system, arguably the most important part of the human body. The brain uses the spinal cord and thus the nervous system to communicate with every cell, tissue and organ in the body. If the brain is the central command post, the nervous system makes up the wires that send out important messages. Your spinal cord is encased in bone - the spine.
Your spine is made up of bones called vertebrae. If your vertebrae get misaligned as a result of an injury, years of poor posture or possibly age related degeneration it will affect the nervous system, specifically the spinal nerves. So, if vertebras becomes misaligned or compromised it will affect more than your back. It will also affect where those spinal nerves go to (i.e. to the heart, lungs, GI track, hands, feet, etc.) For example, we had a patient with severe neck subluxations which, as they improved through Dr. Marr's care, improved her sinuses and her thyroid production. That's because the nerves affected by those particular vertebrae were communicating with her sinuses and her thyroid.
The care you receive from your chiropractor will decrease pressure on the spinal nerves and as a consequence, helps improve your posture, muscle balance and mobility. It will restore the integrity of your nervous system and thus decreases or eliminates the pain completely.
IS CHIROPRACTIC EFFECTIVE?
Yes, with over 85,000 Doctors of Chiropractic in the U.S. and approximately 3,000,000 active chiropractic patients, the truth is in the numbers. There are many independent studies proving that chiropractic care is effective in treating low back pain, neck pain, headaches and many other conditions. Check our links page.
HOW MANY VISITS DOES IT TAKE?
Is it true that once you start chiropractic care you can't ever quit? Think of the chiropractor like a dentist: if you had serious dental problems you'd have to go several times to get better. But once you're better, the visits are less frequent. The same is true of chiropractic: we may need to see you several times at first, but the goal is to see you less and less as time goes on.
The frequency and duration of your treatments varies from case to case, but most of our patients come in for "maintenance" care. These visits are like a cleaning at the dentist, or a checkup at the doctor. It's just as important to take care of your spine as it is your teeth.
WHY SHOULD I SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?
From professional athletes to homemakers, engineers to construction workers, young people to seniors, chiropractic care has a serious impact on our patients' optimum health. Many people see a chiropractor only after an injury, but it's important to visit regularly to stay healthy.
Everyone can benefit from chiropractic care. The spine is one of the most important and complex parts of the body. We see dentists for our teeth, optometrists for our eyes, why shouldn't we take care of our spines?
IS CHIROPRACTIC SAFE?
Yes. This gentle, non invasive healing art is safe. Chiropractors enjoy the lowest malpractice insurance rates of all doctors due to the low rate of adverse side effects.
Recently, the media has aired a discussion regarding the risk of stroke with cervical chiropractic adjustments. The facts clearly state: stroke with cervical manipulation have no greater an incidence than would happen with normal activities of daily living, like washing your hair, driving or turning your head rapidly.
We have several links to studies proving the effectiveness and safety of chiropractor on our links page. Check it out!

We invite you to visit our Testimonials.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY FIRST VISIT?
The initial visit begins with a thorough examination of medical history and, if applicable, the injured area. This is followed by a complete chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological examination. The doctor will then determine whether chiropractic care will benefit your condition or whether a referral should be made to another provider or specialist.
Sometimes, you will be sent for films or more advanced imaging. The first visit usually ends with some physical therapy. Finally, a follow up visit is made where an explanation of your condition is given by your doctor.
HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?
This will vary depending on your condition. Many patients find instant relief following the first treatment, others take a while longer. The vast majority of patients do find significant results within one month of treatment. If, after an initial course of action, relief is not achieved, a referral can be made.
DOES INSURANCE PAY FOR CHIROPRACTIC SERVICES?
Almost every insurance plan does cover chiropractic care. If you have no insurance, we have several affordable cash plans. Donít hesitate to contact our Chiropractor's Office located in Stamford CT. We will be happy to answer any question you may have.
